Being a Leader In Our Daily Lives
“Leader” is a buzz word in our society. Everyone has a different idea of what a leader should be and what qualities they should possess. From elementary school and on, we are taught to be leaders. How can we be a leader in our daily lives and organizations?
In college we are often pressured to join many organizations, and eventually become a leader in one or more of them. After you decide which organizations you’d like to dedicate your time to, you can think about the different ways that you can be a leader.
One thing that many people don’t realize is that it is possible to be a leader without having a leadership position! You can lead by example, stay positive, offer help, and encourage other members! In my opinion, this is one of the most important things you can do when leading other people- leading by example!
One big way to develop your leadership skills is to apply or run for a position. There are positions for all kinds of skill sets and responsibility levels. My tip is to look at the position descriptions and think about your strengths as a leader. It is also important to think about what you are willing to take on.
I have been in situations where I wasn’t confident, or I didn’t think I had the skills required and I needed that push to step into a role I was well suited for. I’m telling you now, you can do it! Being a leader is a great opportunity and you won’t regret it! If you don’t see yourself as a leader, I promise you can be one and you will be great at it! Take that leap!
