What is PRSSA?
Glad you asked. Let’s break it down:
The formal definition of Public Relations, according to the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) is as follows: “Public relations is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics. At its core, public relations is about influencing, engaging, and building a relationship with key stakeholders across a myriad of platforms in order to shape and frame the public perception of an organization.” To understand how Public Relations works is the first step to becoming a part of the PR community.
What is PRSSA?
For starters, PRSSA stands for the Public Relations Student Society of America. The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is a collegiate-level organization for students interested in public relations and communication.
The purpose of PRSSA is to cultivate a favorable and mutually advantageous relationship between students and professional Public Relations practitioners. Our Mission is to serve our members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities, and to serve the public relations profession by helping to develop highly qualified, well-prepared professionals. Through events, meetings, volunteer work, and professional opportunities, University of Cincinnati’s chapter has excelled in building our name, networking, and providing experience to the chapter members. UC PRSSA is always working to find new possibilities in the PR world and stay connected with the community.
Students involved in this club have several opportunities to be exposed to what Public Relations is, how it can be used effectively, and how to strategically represent an organization or a company. Last school year, the UC Chapter sent representatives to the National Conference in Boston, Massachusetts and the National Assembly in Miami, Florida. Members of the PRSSA Executive Board will be travelling to Austin, Texas in October for this year’s National Conference.
